How to assemble a Disaster Supply Kit


Keep a kit ready to go within hours and store in a convenient place

Items to include:

  • First Aid kit and essential medications

  • Blankets or sleeping bags

  • Infant necessities (baby food, diapers, and toys)

  • Water: At least 3 gallons per person. Note: Use your emergency supply or boil water before using until there is official word that the water is safe

  • Important papers (valid ID), insurance, titles, birth certificates

  • Clothing: Protective clothing, rainwear, extra clothing

  • Battery powered radio, flashlight, and extra batteries

  • Canned food and can opener

  • Checkbook, cash, credit cards, ATM cards

  • Eyeglasses

  • Toiletries

  • Fire extinguisher

  • Special items for elderly or disabled family members

  • Written instructions for how to turn off gas, water and electric, if authorities advise you to do so. (Remember, you’ll need a professional to turn them back on!)

  • Cards, games, and books
